How to Add a Refreshing Look to Your Walls: NextGen’s Checklist

Are your walls in desperate need of that eluding refreshing look? Have you been staring at flaking and faded paint in a worry, though you are stumped for a choice and not sure where to start? What if we told you that you could have walls you can be proud of again in just a matter of a few days.

A new coat of paint can make a big difference to your room 's atmosphere, even a lick of brilliant white can make a bigger influence than you seem to think.

Here is the list of NextGen’s helpful decorative tips and check-list in your arms with all the tools and tricks you need to get a professional-looking finish to your walls.

Things you need:
Before going into the process of painting, here is the list of things you require to start the process effectively.

  • A tin of paint with the colour of your choice
  • A roller of paint and a tray
  • Paintbrushes – one medium-sized, one small brush.
  • A mixing stick
  • A tape
  • Drop cloths or plastic sheeting (for shielding the furniture)
  • Absorbent cloths (for dusting down walls and wiping up spills)
  • Step ladder (to get to those hard-to-reach spots)
  • Some white spirits (to deal with accidental paint drips)
  • 1. Choose your paint

The colour of your walls has a significant impact on the overall design aesthetic of the room, so it's highly crucial to get the right paint for your wall. If you're having difficulties to choose, you can hire a NextGen painting and decorating professional to assist you in the process.

Also Pick up a perfect brush, that will assist you well in the painting process. Once you've found the perfect shade and the correct paintbrush, start with your painting work.

    2. Have a tape handy

Cover the wall sockets, window frames and panels, coving, door hardware, and anything else that you don’t want to paint, with masking tape. Make sure you apply it in a neat, straight line so that the edge of your paint turns out equally neat.

    3. Cover up the things!

It’s generally a perfect idea to remove all furniture from the room, but if you don’t have space, then cover it up with drop cloths or plastic sheeting instead. Plastic carrier bags are an affordable and a cheap choice to protect things from a splatter.

    4. Dust down the walls

To get a super-smooth finish, you must dust down your walls before you start painting. A quick one with a dry cloth is generally all it takes. Take special care in the upper corners of the room where the cobwebs might be.

It's also a perfect thing to sand down any irregular blotches and eliminates any old nails or screws in your walls, fill the gaps with a multi-functional filler if needed.

    5. Let the painting begin in real earnest

Usually, you don't have to use a primer on walls that have already been painted, so now is the time to crack your paint tin.

Stir the mixing stick with your paint and pour some of it into your roller tray. Use your medium-sized brush to paint the outer 10 centimetres of your wall across the edges of the masking tape. Then use the roller to fill in the rest of it. The factor in achieving a smooth texture is not to overload your brush or roller.

Leave the first coat to dry and, if necessary, apply another coat. You may need a third coat if you want a sensational change of colour.

    6. Peel off the tape

When your paint seems to be almost dry, peel your masking tape meticulously. If you wait till your paint is totally dry, you risk removing parts of the paint with your tape. If this happens, you always can make a little bit of touch with your little paintbrush.

    7. Stand back and enjoy the handwork.

This is it! You will now own a collection of smooth, beautifully even walls just awaiting to form the background to your brand-new decorative scheme.

    Our last word

Paint in V or W-shaped strokes rather than up and down or side to side when using a roller. It will give you a straight, strip-free end.
